Pocket Memo

Core Player Mechanics

  • Run/Walk Mechanic: Character movement speed. Player speed is dependant on if the "Run" key is also being held, this would be a right trigger, or shift key.

  • Crouch: The Character's ducking and sneaking. Players will need to be able to duck, crouch and sneak through levels. This would be done by clicking in the right control stick on a controller or by using left control. (The reasoning behind left control is that it is used more commonly in competitive gaming as a faster crouch method as its easier to reach with your little finger. In the game a faster crouch is needed in some scenarios.)

  • Throw Item: The player will come across items, i.e. bricks, bottles and rocks. These items can be used to throw at a targeted location following a trajectory. These will be used to distract Non-Playable Characters (NPCs). This will be a click on the Item and then using the mouse to select, or using the "Y/Triangle" Interaction Button, angling with the left stick and then pressing the button again.

  • Interact Mechanic: This is a single key or button to interact with doors, buttons or throwable objects. This will be the Triangle, Y or mouse click when looking at the object.

NPC Mechanics

  • Inspection: NPCs will inspect where a sound may come from, i.e. thrown objects or loud noises.

  • Tracing: Specific hostile NPCs will trace the trajectory of any thrown objects towards where it was thrown as opposed to inspecting.

  • Tracking: NPCs will track sound that the player makes, once tracking, they will follow the player up until they catch them at a close distance. This will last either a short time or until the player is completely out of range.

  • Confidence/Violence: Hostile NPCs will track the source of any problems and will attack or fix the problem, this can mean the player is met with violence i.e. melee or gunfire.

NPC RECOGNITION

  • Regular World: All "Border Troop" NPCs acknowledge that the player is one of them and leave them alone. Civilian NPCs avoid or greet kindly. Rebels will attack with thrown objects.

  • Utopia Dimension: NPCs will avoid the player or offer to help them, those offering to help become hostile when out of sight of non-hostile NPCs, these NPCs are trying to keep the peace/erase the past.

  • Nazi-ruled Dimension: Nazi Stormtrooper NPCs attack on sight, the player is not welcome here, they are considered a rebel or spy. Rebel NPCs will help the player as they believe them to be there to end the Nazi rule.
