Environment Concepts
This section is to show the concept ideas for how the areas around the Berlin Wall would be portrayed in each "Pocket Dimension", in terms of aesthetics and design. Throughout are either mood boards, collected images or photoshopped scenes to demonstrate this.
"Regular" 1980s Berlin
For this, I didn't really need much in terms of concept as there are plenty of references online and in books for what Berlin looked like at the time around the Berlin wall. Below are the references I would go by to make any scenery. This is for the building styles and how the streets would look.
"Utopia" 1980s Berlin
This dimension would be a good example of the harmonious, nature ran, Berlin that saw the wall come down sooner than the 1980s. For this, it must have the feeling of nature taking over the remanence of a worse time. Light must shine through the world, even through the dark. Although overgrown, the beauty must be evident. Below is a photoshopped image of the idea to go for, lots of trees, overgrowth and the idea of rebuilding. Also a moodboard for the theme is along side.
"Nazi-Ruled" 1980s Berlin
The most controversial dimension of them all. Dark, quiet and formal. This Nazi-ruled Berlin is the capital of the world that would be lived if WW2 was won by the Germans. The idea is that this world is clean in a hygienic sense but also of pollution. Streets are bare of what you would assume is normal "life". Everything is bricks or stones. Even if you can't see the eyes watching you the only places to hide are in pure darkness. Below are layouts and photoshopped images of what it may look like.
The boxed layouts are to show how streets and buildings may be made to display the space between buildings (blue), and how buildings may scale to the wall (green). These were made in AutoDesk's 3DSMax. Moodboard can be found to the right.
